Macon didn't know quite what to think of his two new pack members. They were about as different as they could possibly be. If Aetius got any stiffer, Macon was going to suspect there was a stick up his ass.

Iren, on the other hand, acted as if he didn't have a clue about the world around him. He kind of floated along in his own little bubble. Macon was a little surprised the man had made it to Belle Grove unscathed. He was in serious need of a keeper.

From the furtive looks he kept giving the eagle, Macon was pretty sure Iren had someone in mind for that job. He didn't know enough about the pair to say one way or the other if they were a couple or if they were headed to being a couple. Frankly, as long as it didn't impact the pack, it was none of his business.

He'd still keep an eye on both of them in case he did need to step in, but from the delicious aromas coming from the kitchen, Macon could tell they worked well together. He couldn't remember the last time he'd smelled something so good. He was close to salivating. When Iren appeared in the doorway, Macon was ready to jump to his feet.

"Master Aetius says dinner is served."

"Thank you, Iren." Macon stood and held his hand out for Keenan. "Hungry, mate?"

"Starving."

"You ate lunch not four hours ago."

"Yeah, but I've been smelling whatever it is he’s cooking for the last two hours. I'm starving."

Macon chuckled as he tucked Keenan under his arm then walked toward the kitchen. "Just think of what he can do once we get the kitchen fixed up and modernized."

Keenan whimpered.

Macon pulled out a chair for Keenan then took the one next to it. He frowned as he glanced around the table and realized there were only two place settings. "Iren, where are your and Aetius's plates?"

Iren's eyes rounded. "In the pantry, sir."

"Call me Macon, not sir, and get your plates and come in and join me and Keenan."

"But—"

Macon picked up his fork and speared a piece of the steak on his plate. "We're a family now, Iren, not strangers. We eat together."

"Yes, sir... I mean, yes, Macon."

"Good lad."

Iren disappeared into the pantry, but came back a moment later carrying two plates. He set them down on the table across from Macon and Keenan then sat down in front of one of them.

He just sat there.

"Aren't you going to eat, Iren?" Keenan asked. "It's really good."

"Oh yes, I know, but I want to wait for Aetius."

That made sense.

Macon set his fork down then nodded for Keenan to do the same. "It's a good idea, Iren. We should all be here to eat at the same time."

Iren's face paled, which, considering how pale he already was, looked like quite the feat. "Oh, sir, I didn't mean for you to—"

Macon held up his hand. "Call me Macon."

"Yes, sir."

When Aetius walked in, Macon glanced up at him. Considering the delicious meal he'd prepared, Macon was a little surprised at how pristine the man's shirt was.
